About Me

wut.

I might start writing crap in this blog. Dunno why I would. Probably just for extra credit in Mr. Kubik's class, because trying in his class hurts my soul. In all likelihood, I'm just going to blog about funny or interesting videos and wonderful music, because that's about all that I do.

I'm really getting into drone. But not so much electronic drone. I really enjoy organic sounding drone. Chanting, horns (not the orchestral kind), throat singing, et cetera, which is why I love this video...

The video stars a set of (presumably) men, clad in robes, veils, too much jewelry, and god knows what else doing the drone thing with HUGE horns. I assume they're somewhere in Russia or Central Asia based on the poster being written in Cyrillic (from what I can see through the blue haze of incense.)

I've also gotten pretty into black metal again. It greatly interests me how it can range from breakneck speed to a sludgy crawl and still work. I'm also a bit of a lo-fi nerd, and apparently these freaky cutters are too, since you can RARELY fully understand the guitar parts beneath the constant static. That's probably my favorite part about it, though. Black metal tapes are always shrouded in this mystery, where you piece together whatever melody they're working their probably pagan magic on. (I'll include my primary black metal source down at the bottom of this post.)

I've also had a renewed interest in dubstep as of late. Fick by Skream, which has almost always been my dubstep anthem has gotten some considerable play lately. The song is backed by a klaxon that sets a tone of urgency to the whole song, and a drop about 3:40 in that'll break your skull open. So sick.

And, in case anyone out there cares for whatever reason, here's a list of blogs that I follow:
Awesome Tapes from Africa Obviously rips tapes straight outta Africa for your listening pleasure.
20 Jazz Funk Greats Actually has nothing to do with jazz, and little to do with funk. Most often covers general indie music and italo-funk with the occasional (amazing) mix.
Mudd Up! (Negrophonic) Written by dj /rupture who is apparently spearheading this whole northern tropical thing. Lots of sunny world music and cumbia.
Cosmic Hearse This is my main source of black metal, and metal as a whole. This blog is AMAZING. He posts an album or tape just about every day with as detailed information as it's going to get. Black metal, death metal, tech death, doom, sludge, sountracks, psychedelic. It's all here, and it's generally great.
Voodoo Funk This guy makes African funk mixes. He frequently travels to west Africa to search for rare albums and casettes and all of that.
No Pain In Pop Directs your attention to bands with this weird lo-fi 80's fetish (that's generally it, at least.) Actually pretty awesome.
One Sound UK Frequently posts mix tapes of first-wave ska, roots, reggae, dub, dubstep, jungle, et cetera. It's all wonderful, since I love mix tapes and just about all of those genres QUITE a lot.
Doomed To Be Stoned In a Sludge Swamp
The title of this one may seem overdone, but it's pretty fitting since they post mainly three genres: Doom, Stoner, and Sludge. Get it? Pretty great stuff, if you don't mind the tacky half-naked emo girl pictures and the horrid layout.
●●● The title of this one may seem a bit underdone. They post LOTS of leaks of popular indie albums that have yet to be released. They post dubstep too. And house. And electro.
SUNLEISZ This blog is rather weird. I'm not quite sure what their thing is, since they almost never write about their posts. They've got an interest in old foreign films, mysticism, downer 80's synth crap, and god knows what else. Pretty neat, if you check in every once in a while.
Anti-Gravity Bunny This blog is written about Boston-area music, primarily. It seems to feature a lot of interesting drone, but there's also been some really neat finds on here for me that haven't been drone.
Terminal Escape This is blogged by a fella who seems to be really, really interested in hardcore punk tapes, which is a-okay with me. This is another one of those every-dayers who are consistently informative and awesome.

And I leave you with this gem:
